The French Alliance

The alliance America created with France proved to be a turning point in the war. The French still very upset with the loss to Brittan were eager to in some way seek revenge. In 1776 Comte De Vergennes, the French foreign minister, persuaded King Louis the XVI to give the colonies a secret loan of supplies which were much needed. On the front line for the Americans Benjamin Franklin began to seek an alliance with the French. Skeptical at first the French did not want to commit to losing cause but when the news hit Paris of the victory of Saratoga, the French agreed to a formal alliance with the colonies. One of the underlined agreements for aide from the French would allow the French access to the great American west after the war.
The British were quick to act by repealing all former taxes in hope to end the lingering war. The colonist were devoted to their cause and rejected the offers. Without the alliance with the French the war would have not been won by the colonies.

Once again the British repeal the taxes in hopes that the colonists will go back to the way everything used to be. This time there was no turning back. The colonists had decided that the only option was freedom from Brittan.

I think that without the French support, the colonies would not have won the war. they lacked the discipline, the training, the numbers and the arms that the French had. If the colonies had not rejected the British offers, than we may very well have still been under British rule today.

The main reason that the French became allies with the Colonists was the victory of the battle of Saratoga. I think that the battle of Saratoga was a major victory for the achievement for independence.

I think that the battle of Saratoga showed how strong the colonists were, which is why the French showed support. Even though the colonists lacked in training i believe they were fighting for something they truely believed they deserved which is why they won!

The French help clearly impacted the American victory. Were any of the other factors that were involved as important as the French (the British mistakes, motivation, tactics)?

No, French support was it. The Americans could have sent an army comprised entirely of autistic paraplegics and won so long as the French helped.

Saratoga was defiantly a turning point for war, with the French becoming American allies combined with their reason for winning, they became a very strong force at that point.

The French Navy, especially, was a vital component to the war effort. They managed to blockade the British Army at Yorktown, allowing the colonist's army to triumph and force surrender.

The French joining the American Army in the revolutionary war can not be understated. If the Americans didnt win the battle of Saratoga and the french didnt join the war the US would not have been victorious. Even though the French may not have contributed to much on the battle field there navy and the supplies they donated were to grand to be overlooked.
